William Chang
Founder & CTO, Canner Data
What is your motivation that keeps you going every day?
My passion for data and my job.
Who is your role model, or which public personalities have you been inspired by in your startup journey?
Stephen Hawking for his sense of humor, intelligence, and passion for his work and NBA Star, Derick Rose, for his determination.
What are your dreams and aspirations for the company going forward?
My dream is for Canner to be like Snowflake or Databricks, playing an important role in the architecture of many companies.
What is your strategy when things don't turn out the way you expect?
I often find it helpful to talk to people, either those with experience or just outsiders. They often give you advice from different perspectives.
Howard Chi
Founder & CEO, Canner Data
What are your dreams and aspirations for the company going forward?
Many enterprises in Taiwan are struggling to keep up with the global competition. We want to help these companies build essential data infrastructures that support their business vision.
What keeps you awake at night?
Strategic questions like ‘am I in the right direction?’ and ‘can I do it more efficiently?’ keep me up at night. These are critical questions that founders need to continuously ask ourselves, so we continue to grow and thrive.
What is your motivation that keeps you going every day?
I love working with people. There are so many great talents here in Taiwan and I believe that as a team, we can achieve big things.
What is your strategy when things don't turn out the way you expect?
As the saying goes, the only way out is through. I think it is important to never give up, and to constantly improve. If things aren’t as we expected, think about how we can get through it.
Jerry Huang
Founder & CEO, ProfetAI
What's the biggest challenge you faced when starting a company and how did you overcome it?
When we first started our business two years ago, we invested too much time and resources into sales and neglected our back-end commercialisation process.
What are your dreams and aspirations for the company going forward?
I want Profet AI to grow into a global AI software company. Our AutoML platform allows more people to become competitively skilled in AI, contributing to our continued growth and dominance at the apex of the supply chain pyramid.
Who is your role model, or which public personalities have you been inspired by in your startup journey?
My role model is Elon Musk as I hope that Profet AI can shake up the entire software industry like what Tesla had done in the automotive industry.
What is your strategy when things don't turn out the way you expect?
My team is my think tank whenever I have questions or face difficulties in growing as a company. If not, I would turn to my investors and fellow entrepreneurs for advice.
Nick Budden
Founder & CEO, Phase
What inspired you to develop your idea into a startup?
Phase is all about “Creative Flow” — which is that feeling a designer gets when they’re really in the zone, and design just flows. We’re building Phase to help designers get into (and stay in) creative flow as much as possible.
What are your dreams and aspirations for the company going forward?
I want to build a product not only for UI/UX but a suite of web-based, collaborative products for a range of creative mediums.
What is your motivation that keeps you going every day?
I think the problem we’re trying to solve really matters, and if we succeed, we can really bring more happiness into millions of designers’ lives.
What is your strategy when things don’t turn out the way you expect?
I keep a few structured journals. It helps me improve my thinking for the future.
Kordan Ou
Founder & CEO, KryptoGo
What are your dreams and aspirations for the company going forward?
I believe that we are still in an era of internet imperialism, where the data we generate is controlled by tech giants. In the next generation of the Internet, known as Web 3.0, I aim to develop digital infrastructure in the metaverse or the blockchain, based on personal financial history that opens a new world of financial services and applications.
Who is your role model, or which public personalities have you been inspired by in your startup journey?
I admire Elon Musk’s courage. He dares to do what most people are afraid of and is brave enough to make his ideas a reality. He is also goal-oriented and fearless when making his dreams come true.
What keeps you awake at night?
The blockchain and virtual assets industry is ever-changing, and these changes keep me awake. I get excited when observing changes in the market, watching my competitors’ every move, and learning from the best entrepreneurs in the world.
What is your strategy when things don’t turn out the way you expect?
A growth mindset, the ability to think quickly and being flexible always helps me overcome every difficulty.
Paul Chen
Chief Product Officer, Botrista
What are your dreams and aspirations for the company going forward?
My dream is for the company to be a dominant player in the food robotics space and expand into other automation solutions for the F&B industry.
Who is your role model, or which public personalities have you been inspired by in your startup journey?
My role model is Elon Musk. He turned an electric car startup into the most valuable car company in the world by focusing on building the best product and product experience, while maintaining affordability.
What keeps you awake at night?
Thinking whether we can deliver on the lofty goals promised to our investors. Receiving capital and investment is both a privilege and responsibility, which creates pressure to constantly meet targets.
What is your motivation that keeps you going every day?
I want to make an impact. I think everyone has their own ways to improve society or change the world, but I believe mine is through building a company that helps restaurants take home more profit, and offer customers enjoy healthier drink options or better food safety control.
Peter Kuo
Chief Technology Officer, Botrista
What are your dreams and aspirations for the company going forward?
We want to expand the use of robotics in the F&B industry including building a Michelin star robot restaurant and automating home kitchen with robotic equipment.
What keeps you awake at night?
I believe in a good night’s rest, so I tend to sleep peacefully at night. I have trained myself to deal with all kinds of situations calmly.
What is your strategy when things don’t turn out the way you expect?
Find out how big the damage is and always be prepared for the worst.
What is the biggest difference you see from the start of your journey to where you are today?
Working at Botrista has transformed me from working as an independent contributor to a leader that can lead multiple teams and align goals across teams and departments.
Ray Wei
Founder & CEO, PicSee
What are your dreams and aspirations for the company going forward?
One of my biggest dreams is to have PicSee listed on Nasdaq. I want to put PicSee on the global stage and show the world what Taiwanese companies are capable of.
Who is your role model, or Which public personalities have you been inspired by in your startup journey?
I hope to have Steve Job’s creativity, Elon Musk’s intelligence and wealth, Lei Jun’s leadership and managerial skills and Mother Teresa’s selflessness.
What keeps you awake at night?
My business keeps me awake at night. I remember staying up to add new features to PicSee and finding ways to regain my user base after PicSee was blocked by Google Chrome. I hope my next sleepless night will be the night before PicSee goes to IPO in US.
What is your motivation that keeps you going every day?
I strongly believe that every man lives to experience. So, I am motivated to experience what life has to offer by allowing myself to try new things every day.
George Cheng
Founder & CEO, Viewabo
What inspired you to develop your idea into a startup?
When requesting for technical support, I realised that customers didn’t know how to explain the issues they were seeing, and they couldn’t understand the agents’ instructions. There was still much room for improving the customer support experience and started on a mission to make remote support better than in-person support.
What are your dreams and aspirations for the company in the future?
I hope to have products that will impact the world positively. For that to happen, we need to reach as many people as possible with products that people love to use.
What keeps you awake at night?
What keeps me awake at night is wondering how Viewabo can better benefit consumers and positively impact the world. No founder wants to spend a large part of their life working on something that does not create a significant impact.
What is your motivation that keeps you going every day?
Time stops for no one — I don’t want to look back and think that I didn’t make a dent in the universe in a way that was meaningful to me.
Yung Pin Cheng
Founder & CTO, IsCoolLab
What are your dreams and aspirations for the company going forward?
My dream is to build a Taiwan-based global software company, making Taiwan not only known for hardware manufacturing but software as well.
Who is your role model, or Which public personalities have you been inspired by in your startup journey?
Elon Musk. I like his ambition to change the way he lives, and his drive to challenge the status quo.
What keeps you awake at night?
As an entrepreneur, I am constantly thinking about ways to create a strong, united team that produces great products. I believe that our product has to benefit the world and with that, I continue to brainstorm and work on ways to improve product development.
What is your strategy when things don’t turn out the way you expect?
I will analyze the whole problem and identify the possible opportunities to break through. Then, I’ll think of various solutions and activities, which includes starting a new trend, adapting the product or changing my business model.
