It has been decades since the world remembers the MiT (Made in Taiwan) era. With the rising of powerhouses in the region, where do the opportunities for Taiwan lie?
Once Asia's Four Small Dragons, Taiwan drove high speed economic growth through an era where everything around the world was "Made in Taiwan" or "MiT". Like it or not, Taiwan was the backyard that supplied the world, marking the back of toys, T-Shirts, shoes, laptops and circuit boards.
That history and "label" seems to be long past us, as regional powerhouses rose and Taiwan focused on shifting towards more advanced paradigms. Yet, to many it seems, the economy seems to have been locked in time, with few breakthroughs from decades ago.
“At Hive Ventures, we are committed to identify, build and accelerate outstanding Taiwanese teams, and bridging them across the region and globally to drive the new MiT 2.0 paradigm.”
An economy that was built on OEMs, through technological and cost advantages, has today become the bottleneck and shackles of entrepreneurial growth.
At 25 million population, Taiwan offers a very small domestic demand that most tech startups need to hit critical mass. So its obvious that relying solely on the island for business is risky for startups.
The previous MiT era saw that issue clearly, and centered its efforts on building advantages through skilled labor and technology advantages to derive manufacturing excellence and cost efficiency for global clients.
Fast forward to today, the path to success continues to lie in building bridges to the rest of the region, and leveraging on our technological edge to advance businesses in the developing markets of our neighboring countries.
The MiT 2.0 era.
At Hive Ventures, we believe the key for Taiwanese startup growth, is:
1. Leveraging on Taiwan's talent pool and tech advantages to incubate business and ideas
2. Quickly test these ideas and products in regional markets and deploy for a regional/global Go-To-Market.
3. Access global funding to accelerate growth in market.
At Hive Ventures, we are committed to identify, build and accelerate outstanding Taiwanese teams, and bridging them across the region and globally to drive the new MiT 2.0 paradigm.
